We love to hear from individuals, groups, or organizations who wish to volunteer, contribute, or donate to the Fosshost project.
You can reach out to our volunteering team by contacting us with a covering letter and CV to tell us why you think you would be a good fit!
Full training is offered to all volunteers and you are automatically eligible for any of the Fosshost services as our way of saying thank you and a Fosshost branded jacket, hoody, tshirt and mug!
¶ Learning and Education
By volunteering you will have the opportunity to provide and support world-class hosting facilities to many open source projects and good causes. From system administration, build requests and providing community support, we need your help. We operate mixed architecture and some of projects are shifting upwards 20TB per month. You will have autonomy to make a real difference and impact and receive mentoring to provide critical support to some of the most important open source projects.
Our volunteering programme is particularly useful for students and apprentices wanting to learn Linux and virtualisation and the responsibilities of managing a large and global infrastructure. Many students are already benefitting from the skills and hands-on experience and we pride ourselves on using bleeding-edge technology to offer projects with a stable hosting experience, which can allow them to grow.
- Community Coordinator
You will voluntarily attend and coordinate online meetings and events to promote the Fosshost services to the open source community. You will be tasked with spreading the word of fosshost and developing relationships and partnerships with other open source projects and developers.
- Project Advocate
You are already a project enjoying the benefits of Fosshost services and will understand the process end to end, from applying to post-delivery of the service. You will be able to relate, guide, and advise new open source projects considering applying. You will understand their requirements and ensure they are captured accurately.
- System Administrator
You are a Linux/*bsd system admin and understand the CLI like the back of your hand! Preferably you will have an understanding of virtualization such as LXC, KVM, and Proxmox. You will be there for when projects need support or help with any aspect of their hosting service. You will escalate issues to senior volunteers and ensure that issues are captured and logged appropriately.
- Frontend Developer
The project operates various websites and portals for different aspects of our platform. You will be an integral part of the development team contributing to the web development stack and provide support with open tasks and issues. You will have a creative flair and understand design concepts and ideas.
- Network Engineer
You will have an understanding of core TCP/IP networking principles, switching, routing, security, BGP, CDN, ISPs, and telco carriers. We operate globally so it is highly advantageous if you have experience managing infrastructure in multiple regions remotely!
- Marketing Coordinator
We manage several supplier relationships and sponsorships. Many of these agreements require a marketing plan with planned activities. These activities need to be carefully identified, agreed and implemented in an organised, systematic and automated fashion. We also have an active role on various social media platforms and we are looking for somebody who would look to interact with our users, followers and the wider community on important topics relevant to our ecosystem.
